'Mantaray' - new single 'On the Back of Your Hand'

As regular readers know we'd be happy to feature a Post Rock band every day, and we're delighted to come back to Finnish band 'Mantaray', whom we first write about back in 2018 when they released their excellent album 'No More Sirens'. It was the 2nd album from the Jyväskylä based 6 piece outfit, following on from debut 'Atlantic' in 2016, and the good news is that a new album is due early 2020, and from it there is a new single - entitled 'On the Back of Your Hand'.

'Mantaray' have never been a band to indulge too much into huge sprawling 10 minute tracks, as is the habit of many bands in this genre, and 'On the Back of Your Hand' is an accessible 4 minutes. Inevitably it still builds slowly, with 'Jaakko Mäkeläinen' vocals both melodic and convincing, and the gradual crescendo of guitars reaches a sustained climax some 3 minutes which is powerful, consuming and makes full use of the 6 pieces musical armoury. The backing vocals courtesy of Iida Kosonen add to the texture of the sound, and 'On the Back of Your Hand' is possibly their strongest release to date.

We really look forward to the bands new album in 2020, and in the meantime you can find them on Facebook or Instagram.
