After the majesty of Major Parkinson, who continue to take rock in completely new directions, I'll bring things back down to earth with Swedish band Faraways SWE, who are clearly more influenced by some classic rock, psych, prog and goth bands from the last 50 years. New single 'Faraway Space (E.L.E.)' of course isn't down to earth in the slightest, instead being a celebration of all the wondrous possibilities across the universe. The band have been 'helpfully' explaining more:
"It's core lies in the eternal pulse of creation, an infinite lysergic emanation radiating through our consciousness'.
After that I didn't dare ask them what E.L.E. stands for, but google suggests it's either an acronym for 'Everybody Loves Everybody', or it's something to do with Exeter University's online learning platform. Neither explanation makes me entirely happy.
Anyway, I like the track. There's a fuzzy warmth to it, upbeat yet with a warped intensity that I'd enjoy dancing badly to at a gig, without a care in the world. And I've enjoyed listening to some of their older releases, particularly 'Holy Host' and the darker and more progressive inspired 'Frozen Moon'. They sound like they're having a lot of fun writing and releasing their music anyhow.
Faraway Space (E.L.E.)' is the 4th single from their new album 'Utopia Zoo', which is due for release 'sometime' in 2025.
